Wood turtle

Gravid and looking for the perfect spot to lay her eggs. Usually they allow me to get their portrait, but some are shy.

New kid in the woods

He, (or she, I don't know) was born June 3. Here he is at a week old.

Lady slippers

They are past, their flowers are all dried, but the perfect prelude to summer.

Coyotes

Back in May, I had a camera trap set up in the woods. After several days I went back and had this short video of a pair of coyotes. The quality is not the best, but adds to the mystery of the moment.

Hawkweed and roses

Normally I don't photograph macros in full sunlight. They wash out, and can look downright bad.
But what do you do when your subject only blooms in full sunlight?
Don't fight it,embrace it. Get on your belly, grab your longest lens, and shoot.

And if you want roses.

Summer morning

On what rare clear days we've had this year, I've been awake at 4am. It does make the day longer, but it's summer, and this is Maine.
