Phantom Crane Flies! These guys are just an interesting little critter that I've really begun to see in the last few years. Whether they are becoming more prolific or it's because I've become more aware of them, I'm not too sure. Probably the latter. I walked out of the house this morning, and there at the door was a Phantom.

Those are fantastic flies! I first saw them as they danced in the air in shady woodland - it was almost impossible to make out anything more about them than just a fleeting, amorphous object floating up and down in the air. Truly remarkable.

Aren't they! I worked at a fish hatchery right alongside a river and I saw these on a regular basis. It's the most oddest thing to see white spots floating in the air, then an insect materializes.
