Unlike last year's wet summer, this year has been hot and dry. And incredibly rich in the butterfly world.
I haven't been able to continue with the Maine Butterfly Survey, there's been no time.

Beautiful photos Kirk. This year, I have not had anywhere near the number of butterflies at The Dirt Patch.
Yours are beautiful!
Buongiorno Kirk, the butterfly, a beautiful creature who can teach what the grace and elegance!
Hi Kirk,
I've been away for a while due to a very busy summer field season. Very sorry to hear about the passing of your dog.
The top photo in this post is an American Lady rather than a painted lady. Vanessa virginiensis.
Thanks Doug for the correction. I now recall hearing that we do have American Ladies more than Painteds up here.
Awesome pictures...thanks
