Late summer review

Upper Richardson Lake

Yearling and adult bear tracks and a moose.

Rangeley Lake

Summer is winding down. The trees are changing, the days are tending to be cooler, and the nights are having that fall feel. It's dark at 5 am , and getting dark by 7pm.  We've been having a fairly decent stretch of good late summer/early fall days.  Usually around this time I am having a fair amount of melancholy, but this year, that's gone, and the coming fall is being looked upon as a great expectations.

Fall storms will be moving through the northeast, leaves will be changing and believe me that there is just something about a New England fall that has to be experienced to open your eyes.

With Tropical Storm Irene's departure, I made a trip out to Upper Richardson for some time on the water. The lake has been let down so that work can be done on  Middle Dam, so the shore was exposed like it is every fall. All the other area lakes are full, looking more like early spring than late summer.

Next week I take leave and go north. I'll be in Baxter State Park, which is about as near to being perfect as one can get. So hopefully I'll be back with some more photos and stories. Moose should be starting their pre rut rituals, it could be good!

Great photos! Oh, I can remember the thrill of seeing my first bear track. A mother and 2 cubs! [And later on saw my first Mountain Lion tracks too-very exciting!].
I have been/am quite melancholy this year, especially when I noticed that it was now dark when I get up in the morning (5:00-5:15). Sigh.
Have a great time at Baxter, Kirk!

Thanks nut!
Mornings are my favorite time of day, so having it dark when I wake is nice. It's quiet, the day is starting and there is a good chance of seeing something. Think about things that way.
